Obituary
Clayton Earl Vanderbilt, age 75, of Sparta; passed away Monday, July 10th, 2023 at Alleghany Health in Sparta.
Clayton was a member of the Sparta Community for over 30 years. He was a member of Sparta United Methodist Church. Clayton was a man of few words but he loved to watch people and was loved by all who knew him.
Clayton was born August 3rd, 1947 in Durham County, NC to the late William Henry and Dorothy Fitch Vanderbilt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara W. Vanderbilt; two sisters: Jane V. Toy and Jean V. Davis.
Survivors include two nieces: Renee W. Ellis and husband Chris of Hillsborough, NC, Dolly Davis Devlin of Durham; a nephew, Will Davis of Durham; a brother-in-law, Kenneth H. Davis; four great-nieces: Danielle Daye and husband J.T., Maredith Devlin, Melissa Devlin, and Joy Ellis; three great-nephews: Darren Wheeler, Landon Wheeler, and Jordan Ellis; one great-great niece, Aubrey Daye; one great-great nephew, Colby Byrd.
A private memorial service to honor the life of Clayton will be held at a later date.
