Charles Owen Brinegar, age 81, of Sparta; passed away Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Charles was born April 27th, 1944 in Alleghany County to the late Owen and Clyde Smithers Brinegar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby brother, Joseph Brinegar; a brother-in-law, Bobby Evans; two sisters-in-law, Judy Brinegar and Sue Brinegar; a granddaughter-in-law, Kristen Brinegar.
Charles was a member of Landmark Union Baptist church where he was an Elder and pastor since 1979. He enjoyed preaching, fishing, hunting, mowing grass, his family and Christmas lights.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Opal Crouse Brinegar; two children: Karen B. Pelletier and husband Tom of Sparta, Joey Brinegar of Sparta; three grandchildren: Terry Brinegar of Sparta, Christan Teapole and husband Thomas of Sparta, Jessica Wyatt of Wilmington; great-grandchildren: Kayden Brinegar, Dominic Thompson, Wyatt Teapole, and Scarlet Teapole; brothers: David Brinegar and wife Vickie, Chris Brinegar, and John Brinegar and wife Barbara all of Sparta; sisters: Mary Evans of Sparta, Martha Madrid and husband Phil of Glade Creek, Christine Griggs and husband Pat of Enterprise, AL, Charlotte Alford of Sparta, Ellen Byrd of Harrisonburg, VA; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Charles will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 11th, 2025 at Landmark Union Baptist Church with Elders James Smith, Raymond Crouse and Alvin Dixon officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.

The family would like to thank the Alleghany Rescue Squad, Rachel Carter and the staff in the Neurology Unit at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
