Carroll Vester Choate

Carroll Vester Choate, Sr. was born August 8, 1948, to the late Lee Carl and Clara M. Choate in Alleghany County. He received his primary education in Alleghany County and then went to Lincoln Heights in N. Wilkesboro. In 1965, he transferred to Alleghany High where he finished his senior year in 1966.

Carroll loved the Lord, attending the family church Mt. Sinai United Holiness Church until he relocated to Maryland where the family attended church in Monkton, MD. He worked in Alleghany and Surry Counties until he obtained his CDL and began to drive his truck from coast to coast. Carroll retired in 2010 from driving after being involved in a serious accident. He loved to fish and play golf in his spare time. His health began to decline in 2010 but he continued to do what he could.

Carroll met his wife in 1991 and was married on August 6, 1993, moving back to Alleghany County to begin this new chapter in their lives.

He was called home on August 4, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Carroll was preceded in death by his son, Marcus Terrell, his parents, two sisters, a brother, two nieces, and a nephew.

Carroll leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 31 years, Leslie A. Choate, a faithful companion, Jasper, two sons, Carroll V. Choate of Puerto Rico and Christopher Lee of Ohio, two daughters, Enga Choate of LaGrange, Ga, Keisha Cundiff of Winston Salem, 5 brothers, Anderson Lee, Russell (wife Cindy), Donald (wife Wanda), Jack (wife Peggy), James (wife Renee), three sisters, Ula M, Clara S, and Joanne Kyle, two very special cousins, Maceo Lee and Mike Willis, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 7th, 2024 at New Covenant Church with Leslie Choate and family officiating. No formal visitation will be held.
