Buddy Graham Blankenship, age 81, of 976 Collins Road, Sparta; passed away Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 at his residence.
Buddy was born January 12th, 1939 in Richlands, Virginia to the late Burley Blankenship and Mabel Houchins Blankenship Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Crabtree Blankenship; two brothers: Donald Blankenship and Burley Thomas Blankenship; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Blankenship.
Buddy was known best for his hard work. He quit school in the 5th grade to work and take care of his family after his father went in the military. He loved farming his cattle which he treated as pets, gardening and landscaping his yard. He was a member of Savannah United Methodist Church in the Edmonds Community of Alleghany. He was a volunteer with the Solid Rock Food Closet and Meals on Wheels until his health declined.
Survivors include five children: Gary Wayne Blankenship and wife Pam of West Jefferson, Randell Ray Blankenship and wife Bonnie of Ennice, Dean Allen Blankenship of Henderson, Tina Blankenship Joines and husband Tim of Glade Valley, Timothy lee Blankenship and wife Kathy of Sparta; ten grandchildren: Brittany Scott (Isaac), Courtney Miller, Amanda Blankenship, John Blankenship (Katie), Jacob Perry (Ashton), Trent Blankenship, Adam Joines (Hannah), Nicole Blankenship, Matthew Blankenship (Hannah), Jessica Kelly (Jason); seven great-grandchildren: Anakin Joines, Zander Joines, Easton Blankenship, Cooper Blankenship, Landen Kelly, Aubree Kelly, and Archer Scott; a brother, Jimmy Blankenship of Richlands, Virginia; a sister, Betty Hill of Mansfield, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Harold Pardue of Sparta; special caregivers and friends, Margie Spencer and Josh Hunt; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Buddy will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 17th, 2020 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service 115 Hawthorne Street, Sparta, NC with the Reverends David Payne and Ronnie Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the Edmonds Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
