Blane Watson

Thomas Blane Watson, Sr., age 93 of Sparta, NC; passed away Thursday, January 8th, 2026 in Sparta, NC.

Blane was born July 9th, 1932 in Alleghany County to the late Rufus and Jettie Absher Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Caudill Watson; a son, Thomas "Tommy" Blane Watson, Jr.; three daughters: Cheryl Ann Watson, Tammy Achtenburg, Nancy Brooks; two brothers: Junior Watson, George Watson; two sisters: Lessie Keen, Opal Driden. He was a member of Landmark Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters: Brenda Hines (Allen) of Sparta, Patti Sturdivant (Connie) of Independence, Debbie Lybink of Michigan; grandchildren: Tyler Choate (Laken) of Sparta, Zachary Hash of Sparta, Jason Simmons, several other grandchildren also survive; great grandchild, Talen Choate, additional great grandchildren also survive; special friends, Chad and Lindsay Worrick.

Funeral services to honor the life of Blane will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 11th, 2026 at Landmark Union Baptist Church with Brian Poindexter, J.L. Chappell and Pete Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family respectfully request that no food be brought to the home.
