Bennie Joe Davis

Bennie Joe Davis, age 83, a veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of both Jacksonville, FL and Glade Valley, NC, entered eternal life on Monday, October 11th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at his beloved home overlooking the mountains of Glade Valley.
Bennie was born in Cumming, GA to the late Virginia Loye Barrett and James Harold Davis. He grew up in Georgetown, SC with his brother and two sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Ellen Davis Stalvey, his brother, Ronald Davis, and his sister, Robbie Roberts.
Bennie married his high school sweetheart, Laura White Davis. He was a graduate of Winyah High School where he was the quarterback of the football team and Laura was the homecoming queen. He served as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Vietnam War. He also served in the Marine Patrol in the Florida Keys for 21 years. During retirement, Bennie loved working at his church, St. Paul’s by the Sea in Jacksonville Beach, FL and volunteering at Christ’s Church in Sparta, NC. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, including his seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bennie is survived by Laura Davis, his wife of 64 years; his sister, Cheryl Bellune and husband William; his daughter, Debbie Young and husband Ted; his son, Jim Davis and wife Gina; grandchildren Matthew Stalvey, Kevin Healey and wife Erica, Melissa (Stalvey) Bonecutter and husband Steven, Daniel Stalvey, Teddy Young and wife Tara, Victor Young, III, and Davis Young; great-grandchildren Mia, Peyton, Kevin, II, Hayden, Brayden, Ryker, Tate, Maverick, and Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate Bennie’s life will be held at 9:30 am Saturday, October 16, 2021 at St. Paul’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Jacksonville Beach, FL.
