Arlene Vivian (Rector) Hamm

Arlene Rector Hamm, of Salem, VA, went home to be with the Lord on April 18th, 2023. Arlene was born October 15th, 1938 to Homer and Bessie Whitaker Rector. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Rector.

Arlene lived her life as part of a great love affair that her children were given the gift of sharing, watching their parents not just staying married for almost 70 years, but of watching them stay in love, each others best friend and be each others soul mate.

Arlene took her last breath on this earth at home, surrounded by her family, not in a hospital bed, but in the bed she shared with the love of her life. Tommy insisted that her last days would be spent beside him, where she had faithfully spent 67 years.

Her family will miss her, but take comfort in the knowing that only her body died, but she now lives on with Jesus.

Arlene is survived by her husband and soul mate of 67 years, Thomas G. Hamm; five children: Debra (Pat) Koehler of Iuka, IL, Richard (Teresa) Hamm of Sparta, NC, Michael (Vicky) Hamm of Moneta, VA, Loretta (Den) Fowler of Bedford, VA, Katina Newman of Moneta, VA; nine grandchildren: Patrick Koehler, Tammy (Henry) Villanuva, Jana (Matthew) Bare, Miranda (Zak) Roupe, Marie (Mickey) Johnson, Michael Hamm, Jamie Tuckwiller, Kalie (Chance) Witt, Amara Smith; nineteen great-grandchildren; four sisters: Ruth Brown, Ann Osborne, Mary Kennedy, Jean Mitchell; two brothers: Raymond (Elaine) Rector and Cliff (Shirley) Rector; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Arlene will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, April 21st, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Whitehead-Joines Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
