Anna Mae (Sexton) Chandler

Anna Mae Sexton Chandler, age 79 of Independence, VA; passed away Friday, June 12th, 2026 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

Anna was born July 4th, 1946 in Smyth County, VA to the late Rex and Alice Bolt Sexton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Chandler; three sisters: Alma Jo Sexton, Betty Martin, and Mary Ring; three brothers: Donald Ray Sexton, Dale Sexton and Glen Sexton.

Anna was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church in Independence, VA. She loved gardening, spending time with her family, and helping others.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Chandler (Shannon) of Ennice; two grandchildren: Avery Chandler (Shyanne Perry) of Glade Valley, Donna Osborne (Christopher) of Wilkesboro; one great-grandchild; three sisters: Frances Armstrong of Boston, MA, Janet Johnson of Goshen, IN, Angie Paisley (Gale) of Hiddenite; a special friend, Cathryn Hash of Independence; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Anna will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 16th, 2026 in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Service with Reverend Allen Testerman officiating. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Independence, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
